The Bahai World Center in Haifa

The Bahá’í Gardens in Haifa and ‘Akko

With over half a million visitors a year, the Bahá’í Gardens in Haifa and ‘Akko are among the most popular sites in the Middle East. Their unique design, combining geometrical shapes and exquisite detailing with loving conservation of natural and historic landscape features, leaves an indelible impression on visitors. Many return again and again to experience the changing seasons and relive the serene tranquility and uplifting spirit of these special places.

In July 2008, the Bahá’í Gardens in Haifa and ‘Akko were inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, in recognition of their “outstanding universal value” as holy places and places of pilgrimage for the followers of the Bahá’í Faith.

Like all great works of art, these extraordinary sites are tangible expressions of the human spirit. Here the impetus was not the creativity of a great artist, but rather the loving labor and sacrifice of many people from diverse origins and several generations, inspired by a common faith and an optimistic vision of our collective future.

The Bahá’í Gardens in Haifa »

These gardens, located in the heart of Haifa, comprise a staircase of nineteen terraces extending all the way up the northern slope of Mount Carmel. The golden-domed Shrine of the Báb, the resting place of the Prophet-Herald of the Bahá’í Faith, stands on the central terrace, looking across the bay towards ‘Akko.

While different parts of the gardens offer a variety of experiences, they speak in a common language of graveled paths, hedges and flower beds groomed and nurtured by dedicated gardeners. The gardens frame panoramic views of the city, the Galilee Hills and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Bahá’í Gardens in ‘Akko »

The gardens at Bahjí in ‘Akko form a wide circle surrounding the historic mansion where Bahá’u’lláh, the Prophet-Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, resided during the final years of His life and the shrine where His remains were laid to rest.

The approach to the circular garden is a long, straight path framed with cypress trees and informal plantings. As you walk, the silence seems to grow in intensity. Entering the heart of the site is like arriving in a world of peace and serenity, a wall-less sanctuary that is protected without being enclosed.

As Simple as a Walk in the Park

Did you know that with over 10,000 kilometers of marked hiking trails, Israel is one of the world's best-kept hiking secrets.

By following the little blue streak of paint smeared on a rock between two white lines, you are safe to know the trail continues here. This way you can enjoy nature, the view and the wild life without having to worry of the chance of getting lost.

You don't have to be into extreme sports to enjoy hiking in Israel. It is a popular activity that is enjoyed by unskilled walkers, families and now even bikers.

So why is hiking in Israel so special? Well considering that Israel's length, north to south, doesn't exceed 500 kilometers, it is incredible that there are over 10,000 kilometers of marked hiking trails spread throughout Israel. The web of trails cut across nature reserves, national parks and are being maintained year around.

From Ramat Hagolan, Galilee & Carmel green trails with peaceful creeks in the north to Ein Gedi waterfalls and the Judean desert with Christian & Jewish historical footsteps, what a unique alternative to enjoy Israel...you can always finish the trip in a great resort in Eilat or the Dead Sea...or maybe one by the Sea of Galilee.

Let the Spring begin

P.S. Did you know in Judaism 13 (as in Friday the 13) is a lucky number.

Top Reasons to Visit Israel in the Winter:

  • Weather: Israel Weather

1) Weather - Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate average temperatures in Israel are around 18 C/ 60 F in the Winter months. Perfect weather to enjoy sightseeing in the holy & historical sights, hike one of the thousands of gorgeous trails or just enjoy sitting in a cafe by the beach.

Now if you can't imagine a trip to Israel without some fun in the sun, just head South to the Dead Sea or Eilat, which is called Israel's Winter Playground.

2) Prices & Availability - With Winter being low season in Israel, chances to stay at that hotel with the incredible view is much higher, better yet, the price would be much lower than any other time of the year. Sounds like a great deal and who doesn't like that, right?!
Want more? OK...airfare to Israel is almost 50% less than during Summer months.
So with low prices, mild weather, no crowds & cafe by the beach, are you ready to go?

Stay warm

Situation update

  • Weather: Israel Weather

I am sure you have been reading the recent activity in the Gaza & Southern Israel. Those of you who are planning a visit to Israel must be  very concerned with the news.
According to Israel Tourism Ministry there are currently around 35,000 tourists visiting Israel which is why they posted a Q&A on the subject.

GAZA: Situation Update

Israel Ministry of Tourism Q&A

What’s happening where?

The Israel Defense Forces’ action to put an end to the firing from Gaza is taking place entirely within what is known as the Gaza Strip. This is an area under Palestinian control that is customarily not visited by visitors to Israel.

Yes, but what’s happening in Israel?

Rockets fired from Gaza have landed in several areas of southern Israel – places that are mostly far from tourist routes.

How does all this affect my travel plans?

It doesn’t. Conditions in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Netanya, the Galilee, the Negev, Eilat and the Dead Sea are completely normal. The tens of thousands of tourists who came to Israel for Chanukah and to celebrate Christmas in Bethlehem are still here and their travel plans continue unchanged.

Yes, but surely…?

There is no sense or anxiety or crisis – life goes on completely unchanged. Shops, restaurants, beaches, clubs, schools, hotels are open throughout Israel and are operating entirely normally.

Yes, but surely…?

As hard as it may seem to comprehend from thousands of miles away, the current action has no affect on daily life in Israel proper.  More than 70 airlines are operating their normal schedules to and from Israel, and today, as every day, close to 20 flights are operating nonstop between the United States and Canada and Israel, and vice versa.

So what do I do?

Absolutely nothing.

Yes…but…

Tourists and tourism are very important to the State of Israel so it would be foolish and reckless of us to endanger you. If we felt there was the slightest risk, or that it was inappropriate for you to come now, we would ask you not to.

If you’re already in Israel you know there’s nothing to be concerned about. And if you’re on your way, we look forward to greeting you.

I believe they answered all possible questions on the situation, if you still have any concerns/questions, please leave me a comment or send me an email to ssigmund@ddtravel-acc.com

Wishing all of you a peaceful, healthy and happy new year.

Welcome to DD Travel Israel - First Blog

  • Weather: Israel Weather

Welcome, friends

I was trying to think of ways to include our loyal clients, guests and basically anyone who has a question about visiting Israel but was afraid to ask (or just didn't know who to ask).

I am not here to convince you to visit Israel or any other country. I am here to give you local insight, tips and advice of what is right for you when visiting Israel.

For some that would be visiting the holy places only, for others, the beaches, bar/night club scene might be the answer for their prayers. At any rate, Israel has it all.

If you have specific topics you want me to cover or questions I might be able with, please leave a comment.

Thank you for visiting and HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
